Hawaii to Tahiti: Day 18. Diesel rocks

29 Apr

Finally, it was prophesied it would happen. The waves calmed down. But so did the wind. Instead of having 12-14 knots as predicted, we currently only have 4. So we’re converting to power boating. We just passed our 200 nautical miles left mark and we should have enough diesel fuel to make it all the way now, so we fired up our trusty Yanmar Diesel engine and furled in our head sail.

We’re now making 5 knots straight towards our target and we’re shooting to arrive Tuesday between 11 am and 5 pm. The outer reef has a very strong current running in and out of the only two passages, and we have to time it right to make it. Hopefully, running the engine will allow us to do just that. Just 48 hours to go now. We can almost smell land. Even the weather is getting better. We had one of the very few all sunny days today. I’m putting some drinks in the fridge to prepare for our arrival.

Aloha from Petter and Octavia
