Hawaii to Tahiti: Day 20. Rangiroa

1 May

We spotted Rangiroa’s palm tree line this morning at 7:45 AM and arrived at the Tiputa pass with a couple of hours to spare before slack tide. We are now anchored across from the Kia Ora resort in the flat lagoon surrounded by beautiful shades of blue. We are looking forward to steak and champagne to celebrate our arrival, but first we have to complete the check-in formalities.
The boat is eerily quiet and flat, and we are happy to be able to start a well deserved sejour after a hard passage. Aloha and Maeva, Octavia and Petter

  1. Congratulations and well done!! we will have champagne and steak on this end to celebrate your arrival… from your friends at Koolina aboard the Coq au Vin. Much love and aloha

    • Thank you! I hope you are enjoying mainland France – we’re enjoying the OM! xo

  2. You for sure deserve the steak and champagne when you clear customs! So happy you are there safe and sound! ❤️⚓️

  3. Congratulations. Well done, sailors. Eagerly awaiting your next plans together with a picture of you showing how you look like after 20 days at sea.

    • Thank you! We feel accomplished, and happy to be at our destination. Time to enjoy some baguettes and French cheese! We didn’t look that bad, but I’ll post some pictures soon 🙂

  4. Sooo glad you arrived safely. We were with you all the way. Rangiroa was one of our most favorite places. Kia Ora is very accommodating to boaters. We rented a car from them twice. One for provisioning and the next time for fuel. FYI…if you need to get fuel you’ll have to take you cans to the station to refill. Keep in mind that they close for lunch and take every little holiday off for the day. Might want to check out their times before renting a car.
Also, there is a charming little restaurant, if your looking for a special place to go. It’s called Josephine’s. She only offers one or two dishes each night. Usually, fresh fish. View is very pretty and food was very good. Might want to take a look at it.
    ENJOY, ENJOY!
    Love to you both

    • We loved it! We would have easily stayed longer, and we are definitely considering going back next season. Kia Ora was fantastic, we didn’t make it much further than that but we had some yummy crepes at one of the snack places.
Yes, we ran into the noon till 3 closures when looking for fuel too – we just chilled for a bit and tried again… we were using our own dingy though not a rental.
      Aloha!

  5. I am so happy and also relieved to read this note. Congratulations on completing the journey under such arduous conditions. Pop the cork.

    • Thank you for your kind words! The cork has been popped, many times now 🙂 Aloha!
